A Labor Day thought and Pilgrims progress…

American Labor Day, Monday, September 1st, the first day of the original seventh month, Septo = 7. I live in the heart of Jerusalem DC (David’s Capitol) and had occasion to be standing on the Mount of Olives that lies before the city on the east, looking at the pilgrims, camel and vendors, surveying the whitewashed sepulchers marking the tombs of those in eternal rest waiting for the day of resurrection (Matthew 23:27). Seeing the majestic mountains surrounding Jerusalem as the Lord surrounds his people recorded in Psalm 125:2. With a light breeze blowing this is a wonderful panorama over the geo-political naval of the world from where legend records the Almighty created the world and ultimately from its dust mankind. I looked towards the City of David where, after a fight, he established his throne and Solomon ascended the hill of the Lord to build the Jerusalem Temple introducing pilgrimage, the hill is now crowned by the Islamic Golden Dome of the Rock. In the wall opposite is a closed Eastern Gate (Ezekiel 44:1-2).

The first biblical annual Foot Pilgrimage to Jerusalem’s Temple is Passover, followed by meticulously counting the days of seven weeks plus a day to the 50th day, the Feast of Weeks or Pentecost the ’50’ when again the faithful ascend to the Holy City the national and religious heart throb and earthly representative of G-d’s House.
History frequently repeats itself, time and again. Yes, the old rival Amalek had once more raised his head, just as in bible times that reads as true today as the day it was written. Once more the media meticulously counted seven weeks plus a day from the inception of Operation Protective Edge to the 50th day when silence and tranquility was restored. ‘You will hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not alarmed; for this must take place, but the end is not yet…’ (Matthew 24:6). Now the time and inclination is ripe and I would like to invite you to join me in celebrating a triumphal entry across the Kidron Valley, also known as Jehoshaphat where ‘G-d will judge,’ a sort of jubilee, a celebration to life, good health, peace and joy to enter through His Gates.

Throughout the Gazan tribulation, the pilgrim sites remained open. Those who came travelled without intimidation, to and fro between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. Enjoying and sapping up the land with little interference. A good barometric indicator of people visiting has always been the number of busses parked at the Israel Museum and elsewhere. Others chose to pray and express their comforting solidarity from afar. Since Tuesday, August 26th the hostile skies are hushed, the highways and byways are visibly and audibly clattering with traffic, filled with locals and visitors; it’s obviously back to business as usual from the North, East, West and South, as an acronym that spells the NEWS.

With summer drawing to a close the fall season brings a turning leaf. Turn the leaf of your Bible and open Leviticus 23:23, the first day of the seventh (Hebrew) month is a holy convocation, referred to as trumpeting, as it hails in the Jewish New Year of 5775 being calculated from the termination of creation. We call it “Rosh Hashannah” Head of the Year that could be read as “Rosh Hashonneh” which would translate as a ‘change of mind,’ like a New Year’s resolution. Ask yourself, as the Psalmist King David did, “Who may ascend the hill of the Lord? And who may stand in His holy place?” (Psalm 24:4) And the answer is, “You can!” So make it your resolution to ascend to the Holy City of Peace let me invite you to walk with me through the vibrant markets, highways and byways. Make it this Year in Jerusalem, travel the tranquil surrounding countryside and sail the Sea of Galilee where the storms were calmed, Peace be still! Let me take and enhance the sites with you. I’m Malcolm in Jerusalem and I’m anxiously looking forward to seeing and sharing My Homeland, His Land, the Holy Land of Israel with you.

Shalom, Salaam, Peace. Maranatha (I Corinthians 16:22)!
