In 1633, in the quaint Bavarian town of Oberammergau, gripped by war, poverty and plague, the villagers of Oberammergau vowed to put on a ‘passion play’ every ten years if their village was spared. They survived, and performed the very first Oberammergau Passion Play in 1634. Ever since, their descendants have carried out this pledge, giving you the opportunity to attend this unique experience in 2020.

This small village in Germany brings the life of Jesus to color every 10 years. Over 2000 residents of this small village participate in the Passion Play. The play starts with Jesus entering Jerusalem, continues to his death on the cross and finishes with the resurrection. This is an extraordinary community enterprise, in which only natives of the village can participate.
Oberammergau and its residents combine history, art and tradition with devotion to their region and hospitality.
