Travel the Footsteps of Paul through
Greece to Philippi

One of the famous places our Greece tours visit is Philippi.

Philippi was a city in eastern Macedonia, established by Philip II in 356 BC and abandoned in the 14th century.  Filippoi is the current name of the city and is located near the ruins of the ancient city and it is part of the region of East Macedonia and Thrace in Greece.

Maranatha tours Christian tours visit Philippi while in Greece to learn more about Apostle Paul and the spread of Christianity. Philippi is where Apostle Paul preached his first sermon and baptized the first Christians in Europe. Philippi was the first European country to accept Christianity. Philippi is mentioned in ACTS 16:15 as the location of Lydia being baptized by Paul. Our tours will visit this location to learn more about Paul baptizing Christians in the Philippi area.

Acts 16:14-40 King James Version (KJV)

14 And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.

Philippi is also the place where Paul was believed to have been imprisoned. We will stop and view a crypt dating back to the Roman period that is thought to have served as a prison for Paul.
