Petra is one of the most astonishing archeological sites in the entire world. Known for its tombs and temples, Petra bears the signs of ancient wear and tear yet it attracts thousands of visitors each year, perhaps because of the history that goes along with the ruins.
During the Exodus, Moses and the Israelites passed through the Petra area in Edom. Local tradition says that the spring at Wadi Musa (Valley of Moses), just outside Petra, is the place where Moses struck the rock and brought forth water (Numbers 20:10-11).
